Armond White is a New York-based film critic, based at the alt-weekly New York Press. His reviews for New York Press, Film Comment and The City Sun have been discussed in The New York Times, Time magazine, Cineaste and Sight and Sound and the web magazine Senses of Cinema.

White was born in Detroit, Michigan as the youngest of seven children.

His interest in journalism and film criticism began as a student at Detroit’s Central High School, when he first read a book “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”

He is a member of New York Film Critics Circle,

White is the recipient of the 25th Annual ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for music criticism,

White, who watches “five to 10 movies a week”

Armond White, who has stated in an interview that “most films are dismissable”,

Because of his continuous negative criticism of Noah Baumbach’s and Spike Lee’s films, he was barred from press screenings of their films “Greenberg” and “Get on the Bus”.

White is an outspoken denouncer of online or blog film critics,

He is also considered to have coined the term “hipster nihilism” as a description of an attitude to film.
