A Whale is a Liberian flagged oil tanker built in 2010 by Hyundai Heavy Industries, Ulsan, South Korea for Taiwan Maritime Transport Co. Ltd. (TMT) from the Republic of China (Taiwan). She was refitted and converted in Portugal into a so-called “super skimmer” to assist in the clean up of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in Gulf of Mexico, near the Mississippi River Delta, Louisiana. The ship’s owners claim A Whale can separate 300,000 to 500,000 gallons of oil per day while storing the crude and returning the cleaned sea water to the sea.

The gray (or grey) whale (Eschrichtius robustus) is a baleen whale that migrates between feeding and breeding grounds yearly. It reaches a length of about 16 meters (52 ft) a weight of 36 tonnes (35 LT; 40 ST) and lives 50–60 years. The common name of the whale comes from the gray patches and white mottling on its dark skin.. The gray whale is the sole species in the genus Eschrichtius, which in turn is the sole genus in the family Eschrichtiidae. This mammal descended from filter-feeding whales that developed at the beginning of the Oligocene, over 30 million years ago.

The False Killer Whale (Pseudorca crassidens) is a cetacean, and the third largest member of the oceanic dolphin family (Delphinidae). It lives in temperate and tropical waters throughout the world. As its name implies, the False Killer Whale shares characteristics such as appearance with the more widely known Orca (“killer whale”). Like the orca, the False Killer Whale attacks and kills other cetaceans. However, the two dolphin species are not closely related.

Most modern classifications split the minke whale into two species;

Taxonomists further categorize the common minke whale into two or three subspecies; the North Atlantic minke whale, the North Pacific minke whale and dwarf minke whale. All minke whales are part of the rorquals, a family that includes the humpback whale, the fin whale, the Bryde’s whale, the sei whale and the blue whale.
