Target Field is a baseball park located in Minneapolis, Minnesota that is the home of the Minnesota Twins, the city’s Major League Baseball franchise. It is the franchise’s sixth ballpark since its start as the Washington Senators in 1901, and the Twins’ third in Minnesota after 28 seasons at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, marking the first facility built specifically for the Twins, as Metropolitan Stadium was open four years before the Twins came to Minnesota and had been used by the minor league baseball Minneapolis Millers, while the Metrodome was built as a multipurpose stadium for the Twins and the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League as well as home for University of Minnesota football and baseball programs, the latter on a part-time basis. The Twins received the certificate of occupancy from Mortensen Construction, the ballpark’s general contractor on December 22, 2009. Their first day of operations at the new facility was January 4, 2010.
