The Thin Man News

the thin manThe Thin Man (1934) is a detective novel by Dashiell Hammett. Although he never wrote a sequel, the book became the basis for a successful film series which also began in 1934 with The Thin Man and starred William Powell and Myrna Loy. A Thin Man television series followed in the 1950s.

An early draft of the story, written several years before the published version, and now in print in several collections of Hammett’s work, does not mention the main characters of the novel, Nick and Nora Charles, and ends after ten chapters. It is about a quarter of the length of the finished book. Read more »

insight bowlThe Insight Bowl is an NCAA-sanctioned Division I-A post-season American college football bowl game played in Arizona since 1989. From 1989 to 1999, the games were played at Arizona Stadium in Tucson. Starting in 2000, the game moved to Bank One Ballpark, now known as Chase Field, in Phoenix. The game moved yet again effective with the 2006 game, but remained in the Phoenix metropolitan area, this time to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, which was left without a postseason game when the Fiesta Bowl, a member of the Bowl Championship Series, shifted to University of Phoenix Stadium in the western Phoenix suburb of Glendale. The 2006 game saw another change, with the television rights going to the NFL Network, replacing ESPN. Read more »

The bowl replaced the now-defunct Houston Bowl, which was played annually from 2000 to 2005. The first bowl game in Houston was the Bluebonnet Bowl, played from 1959 through 1987. The defending Texas Bowl champions are the Rice Owls, who defeated the Western Michigan Broncos last year.

sun bowlThe Sun Bowl is an annual college football bowl game that is usually played at the end of December in El Paso, Texas. The 75th Anniversary of the Sun Bowl was played on December 31, 2008. The Sun Bowl, along the Sugar Bowl and the Orange Bowl are the second-oldest bowl games in the country, behind the Rose Bowl (first played 1902, played annually since 1916). In most of its early history, the game pitted the champion of the Border Conference against an at-large opponent.
